Environmental Management
In October 2006 the Lampografica division of the Piber Group was awarded the UNI EN ISO 14001:2004 certification for Systems of Environmental Management. This was an important step that demonstrates the serious way in which the Piber Group employs a company policy in favour of safeguarding the environment.
During the last year the Lampografica division of the Piber Group has been involved in the development of a UNI EN ISO 14001:2004 certified system of environmental management. The Certification Organisation was particularly interested in observing and assessing the optimum use of natural resources (water and air), of the power sources, (electricity and fuel) as well as the raw materials (plastic, paper and others) and the management of the waste products (production, temporary storage and waste removal, all compatible with the currently available systems of differentiated waste collection).
Adopting a philosophy regarding environmental themes means that as well as respecting all the legislative conditions and regulations in force, a company must also adopt precise, severe standards that are universally recognised. A system of environmental management involves the processes, the procedures and the resources that the society utilises in order to carry out its activity as well as the organisational structure of the society itself. The system guarantees a constant control – and wherever possible improvements – of the ways in which the production and the production systems are compatible with the environment.
A thorough analysis of all the company processes has given rise to a sort of “x-ray” of the society and this has led to the creation of an environmental manual where particular attention is given to informing the staff and increasing their awareness of environmental problems. To this end, the company has organised training sessions regarding environmental themes in order to carry out what they consider to be their social responsibility.
The UNI EN ISO 14001:2004 certification is the reward for adopting a strategy that combines productivity, development and care for the environment.
However, this is not the first step that the Piber Group has taken towards a policy for safeguarding the environment. Since 1993, Piberplast has followed a project known as "piberecycling", a project that involves the recovery of about 600,000 kilograms of used packaging a year. For this initiative, the society was awarded the title of “environmentally efficient society 2000” an award assigned by the Lombardy Region to societies that had adopted innovative products, services, processes or systems that were particularly significant in reducing the negative impact on the environment. With the same goal in mind, the society has two other important initiatives, the certification for buying “clean energy” (through the society Dynameeting, Pibergroup buys RECS certified energy – Renewable Energy Certificate System) and the adoption of “environmentally-friendly pallets” (produced by Palm S.p.a, they are made of wood taken from forests and plantations managed and protected according to the principles of safeguarding natural resources; they are PEFC Certified – Programme for Endorsement Forest Certification – and are part of a project known as “Environmentally Friendly Societies”).
